into は「～の中へ」という意味で、in と似ています。実際、into と in のどちらを使ってもいい場合もあります。違いは、into のイメージは「外から中への動き」で、in は静止状態で「～の中に」というイメージになります。動きを感じる文なら into を使うように心がけているといいでしょう。
また into には「～に（変わる）」「～に（分ける）」のような使い方もあります。
She went into the shop.
彼女はその店に入っていった。
He threw a stone into the river.
彼は石を川に投げ込んだ。
The cat vanished into the dark.
猫は闇の中に消えていった。
He looked into the box.
彼は箱の中をのぞいた。
The road into the city is closed.
