what は「What is this?」などで疑問詞としておなじみですが、what を使った疑問文で「What time ～？」や「What subject ～？」のように what の直後に名詞がついているものもよく見かけると思います。
この「what + 名詞」のパターンでは、what は「何の～」という意味の形容詞の働きをしています。what time で「何時」、what subject で「何の教科」となります。

What time is it now?
今、何時？
What day is it today?
今日、何曜日だっけ。
What kind of music do you listen to?
あなたはどんな種類の音楽を聴きますか。
